There's not much to report since our last posting. We still don't have our residence permits. We have yet to receive the letter in the mail to schedule our appointment with the Immigration office for the biometrics. We need to call this week so our upcoming trip to Ireland isn't affected.
A couple weekends ago we had people over from work for Greek mezzes (like Greek tapas) and games. We had fun, but the evening marked the beginning of a terrible cold for M. She had a lot of sinus pressure (which made her worry she had a sinus infection) and headaches, and it felt like her nose was completely blocked. She wound up going back and forth from work to home with her laptop, partially due to feeling poorly and partially due to feeling guilty because of the dirty looks she was getting every time she coughed or blew her nose. However, one of the coworkers had suggested a good local doctor to see, and after her doctor's visit, she headed to the pharmacy to load up on European cold medicines. After a week plus of feeling crappy, she's finally feeling much better though she can't seem to shake a lingering cough.
Lessons learned:
1. Paracetamol is acetaminophen. (Panadol is the most popular brand name of paracetamol.)
2. Europeans think Americans use over-the-counter pharmaceuticals with reckless abandon.
3. The Batz is the name for one of the old Swiss currencies used before the Swiss franc became the standard for the country. For Neuchatel's 1000 year anniversary, they are issuing limited time Batz to commemorate. There are 5-Batz coins equivalent to 10 Swiss francs. The Batz can be used as currency at participating businesses within the city from March to October. There is also a commemorative Batz coin that is not meant for circulation.
